Quantum phenomena taking place in the silicon nanostructure of porous silicon can lead to visible light emission, a characteristic that is not available in in bulk silicon.
Electroluminescence with an efficiency of up to 1.1% has been developed in the Laboratory of Prof. Koshida in TUAT.
In addition, based on the nanocrystalline silicon technology, the fabrication and operation of 3 dimensions optical wave guide and optical resonator have been demonstrated. The research is also directed to the development of application for optoelectronic IC and optical information processing that are using silicon.
